How Do I Know I Need Weed Control?
As you would expect, the best way to see if you need weed control is to look at your lawn or garden and perform a visual inspection to discover if any unsightly weeds are popping up. Dandelions, for example, are an all too common weed that can infiltrate a lawn or garden. Additionally, clovers might take up large areas of your lawn and will dominate the plants that were previously there.
Typically, most weed control calls we get at Pure Lawn are for dandelions, clovers, and wild violets, but you may also encounter different types of weeds that could require more action or weed management.
Regardless of the type of weed you see in your lawn, you cannot go wrong by calling us at Pure Lawn to come over and take a look. Homeowners often try to resolve the weed infestation in their lawn by themselves, but the problem is often too complicated for off-the-shelf solutions available to retail customers.
Don’t Let Your Yard Suffer from Weeds
Many homeowners will see one or a few weeds pop up in their lawn and will think nothing of it. The problem with this is that weeds multiply quickly, and before you know it, they will cover a great deal of your lawn and will be much more difficult to eliminate.Â
We urge you to not let your garden suffer from weeds because the problem will only get worse. Not only do weeds look bad, but they will deteriorate the overall health of your lawn and may lead to irrevocable alterations. The best way to be proactive in your weed control approach is to treat the issues when they first pop up.
If you notice weeds in your garden, please give us a call so that we can assess and then give you the information you need to bring your lawn back to proper health. Your lawn is a place to relax, play on, and plant flowers or crops. We value lawns because they give our customers a chance to be outdoors, and it is our mission to make this time as enjoyable as it can be.

Full Communication
At Pure Lawn, we take pride in our communication with our clients. After opening a dialogue with our clients and providing them with the weed control information they need, we give them in-depth instructions on how to care for their lawn for a long time to come.
We will tell you how to water your lawn, how to mow it, the best way to control weeds moving forward, and anything else we notice that requires your attention. If there is a sedge that needs to be treated, for example, we will be sure to tell you. During our thorough examination, we will also be on the lookout for other lawn diseases and insects, and we will be sure to relay this information to you if we discover anything peculiar.Â
After sharing with you everything we have uncovered about your lawn, we will always be a phone call away and will serve your needs no matter how small or how big the problem with your lawn may be.

Broadleaf Weeds
Broadleaf weeds are unwelcome in any lawn, garden, or yard, and they are very difficult to remove. They are easy to spot, but the problem is that they can multiply very quickly and can end up taking over your lawn.
There are several types of broadleaf weeds such as the common chickweed or the broadleaf plantain, but the most common broadleaf weed is the dandelion.
Dandelions can grow in any type of soil, and they are most likely to be found in areas that are exposed to a lot of sunlight. If you discover dandelions growing in your lawn, we will do everything that we can to help you eliminate them and prevent further outbreaks. However, no lawn will ever be completely immune to weed growth, and we cannot promise that they will not come back.
What we can promise is that we will control what we see. It is important to know that there is no residual prevention from spraying weeds, and if the weeds are growing beneath the surface of your lawn, you may need supplemental treatment in three weeks when they pop up.

Sedge Grass Weeds
Yellow nutsedge, or water grass, is the most pressing weed control problem facing the St. Louis area. This weed, and other similar weeds, have tubular roots which are far beneath the surface and make them extremely difficult to control. Because they are so hard to eradicate, there is an additional charge when it comes to removing water grass and similar weeds. Supplemental treatments may be required due to just how difficult it is to control these pernicious weeds in a lawn or garden.Â
Kyllinga, too, is a very common type of sedge weed, and it is extremely difficult to control the spread of kyllinga once it begins. Purple nutsedge, cylindric sedge, globe sedge, and spiderwort also fall under the category of sedge grass weeds, and they all share the components of rapid growth and spread. They are all able to grow up to 20 inches in height which can be an eyesore for any lawn.
Grassy Weeds
Grassy weeds will lower the quality of turf and its appearance. They will die at the end of the year’s growing season and will leave seeds behind for future germination. Although these weeds are not as troubling in comparison to sedge grass weeds, they are still unwanted in any lawn. In short, they will not help you produce a healthy and aesthetically pleasing lawn. The good news is that these grassy weeds are manageable and preventable.
Crabgrass is one of the most common types of grassy weed, and it can be eliminated from your lawn through a pre-emergent treatment before the season starts. Other common types of grassy weeds are bermudagrass, nimblewill, quack grass, and wild fescue.
All of these weeds spread quickly and can cover a lot of ground. They are uncomfortable to step on and do not contain the soothing feeling of natural grass. Given that these crabgrass can be prevented, do not hesitate to give us a call so that we can set your lawn up to be healthy and untainted.

Safe Treatment, Applied Judiciously
When we use product, we do so judiciously and with caution. Far too often, homeowners will apply far too much product on their lawn to prevent the further outbreak of weed. Instead of showering our lawns, we focus on the infected areas and leave the undisturbed areas alone. After about an hour, any areas that were treated are safe for people and pets to roam about.
We inform our customers not to spray off-the-shelf product in any areas that are near water runoff, as the product could find their way to aquatic life. We also urge customers to thoroughly wash themselves and any part of their clothing that has been exposed to off-the-shelf weed control products.
If you have any additional questions about the use of weed control products, feel free to give us a call and we will tell you everything you need to know.
Benefits of Weed Control
There are several benefits to weed control, and there is no downside! First off, weeds take necessary nutrients from your plants and grass because they can grow much more quickly. This will weaken your other plants and make them more susceptible to disease and pests.
You are likely reading this page because you value your lawn or garden. Your lawn is like any other investment on your property, and it should be protected as such.
Additionally, you will save a great deal of time engaging in weed control. You will not have to spend time and energy pulling individual weeds from the ground if you perform the correct weed control procedures.
Lastly, and most importantly, weeds can be poisonous and could endanger the health of people and pets living in your home. Without a doubt, weed control is a very important part of keeping your lawn and property healthy.
